At least 310 people were killed and hundreds injured in a stampede for the Hajj pilgrimage outside the holy city of Mecca on Thursday, Saudi Arabian officials said. Saudi Arabia’s civil defense directorate said on Twitter that medical teams were continuing to sort through fatalities and injuries from the crush in Mina, on the outskirts of Mecca. More than 220 rescue vehicles and ambulances — along with 4,000 pilgrims — were helping respond to the incident, it said, advising pilgrims to take alternative routes. Images of the chaotic aftermath showed dozens of bodies lying in the streets, some of their faces covered in the white garments traditionally worn for the pilgrimage. Emergency vehicles lined the road and officials in high-visibility jackets attempted to tend to the injured.

Dan Joseph, of the Media Research Center wanted to find out if authorities who arrested the ‘clock kid’ Ahmed Mohammed were really Islamophobic, or whether they were just reacting normally to an object they perceived to be a potential threat. So Joseph visited George Mason University and asked students what the first thing that came into their minds was when they saw a picture of the ‘clock’.
Practically every student questioned replied with the words “It looks like a bomb.”
